Zambia
Welcome to Sponsor a Child-Zambia
In a country seriously affected by HIV and AIDS, Zambia has now over 800,000 children left orphaned by the disease. We work with many children in Livingstone who are orphaned and are left in the care of extended family or carers. However, in many cases relatives and carers have their own children to provide for, so this unfortunately means that they cannot always afford to send their surrogate children to school.
At primary school, some communities are able to cover the cost of children who cannot afford the school fees. However, the biggest gap in children’s education remains at secondary school level, as the fees are expensive and obligatory for all children, no matter what their background.
With the help of the local community members, teachers and community leaders, we aim to support underprivileged children in schools who are the most vulnerable and in need. Many of these children are naturally bright and enjoy the interaction that they get at school, the stimulation of learning new skills and communicating with other children is vital to their growth. The opportunity to receive support for just one year will help a child enormously and give them what every child deserves; an education and a chance to shape their own future.
We support children in over ten schools in and round Livingstone’s compounds.
These include; Nakatindi Community School, Mwandi Community School, Livingstone Primary School, Dambwa Christian School, Malota Community School, St. Rapheals Basic School, Dambwa Basic School, Holy Cross School and Mulwani Basic School.

To Sponsor a Child:
1. Select a child to sponsor from our online profiles or from your own experience visiting our projects.
2. Email Lucy@africanencounter.org and request a Sponsor A Child donation sheet.
3. Compete the sheet and send it back, ensuring that you give the name of the child you wish to sponsor.
4. Send us your sponsorship money. We recommend bank transfer or donating online as these methods incur the lowest admin costs. For more information on where and how you can give to The Happy Africa Foundation Click here.
NB. If you choose to donate online to the Happy Africa Foundation please ensure you list your name so we can allocate your donation to the Sponsor a Child Program.
Once you have sent us your donation form and we have received your money into our Livingstone account (NB: cheques can take time to clear) we will contact you to confirm the activation of your years sponsorship. If, for any reason we cannot support your chosen sponsor we will outline the reasons in this first email. (For example, if a candidate is unsuitable or outside our catchment zone.)
Four months after activation (approx) you will receive a full update with photos and progress report in PDF format.
We will then email you before your sponsorship lapses to give you a brief update on your sponsored child’s progress and offer you the chance to renew your sponsorship.
If you have any questions please contact lucy@africanencounter.org.
