Sponsorship Programme in Zambia

Welcome to Sponsor a Child, Zambia

In a country seriously affected by HIV and AIDS, Zambia has now over 800,000 children left orphaned by the disease. We work with many children in Livingstone who are orphaned and are left in the care of extended family or carers. However, in many cases relatives and carers have their own children to provide for, so this unfortunately means that they cannot always afford to send their surrogate children to school.

At primary school, some communities are able to cover the cost of children who cannot afford the school fees. However, the biggest gap in children’s education remains at secondary school level, as the fees are expensive and obligatory for all children, no matter what their background.

With the help of the local community members, teachers and community leaders, we aim to support underprivileged children in schools who are the most vulnerable and in need. Many of these children are naturally bright and enjoy the interaction that they get at school, the stimulation of learning new skills and communicating with other children is vital to their growth. The opportunity to receive support for just one year will help a child enormously and give them what every child deserves; an education and a chance to shape their own future.

We support children in over ten schools in and around Livingstone’s compounds. These include; Nakatindi Community School, Mwandi Community School, Livingstone Primary School, Dambwa Christian School, Malota Community School, St. Rapheals Basic School, Dambwa Basic School, Holy Cross School and Mulwani Basic School.

These children have been assessed by each school’s Sponsor a Child Committee and have been classified as vulnerable and in need of sponsorship.

To sponsor a child:
1. Select a child to sponsor from our online profiles or from your own experience visiting our projects. If for any reason we cannot support your chosen child (for example, if a child outside of our catchment area) we will offer you the opportunity to sponsor another child.
2. Email lucy@africanencounter.org.
and request a sponsor a child donation sheet.
3. Complete the sheet and send it back.
4. Send us your sponsorship money, to make a donation Click here.

Once you have sent us your donation form and we have received your money into our UK bank account we will contact you to confirm the activation of your sponsorship. You will receive a full update on your child with photos and a progress report in PDF format.
