In the quaint little rural township of Red Hill we work along side two pre-schools: The Red Hill Pre-School and Children Of Hope Edu-Care Centre. Between the two schools we have nearly eighty children aged between three months and six years. There are many more children in the township whose parents cannot afford to send them to school due to unemployment and lack of support from the government, in terms of social welfare.

The children that do attend school are fortunate enough to do so either because they have one parent working, who understands the importance of education or are receiving sponsorship. At school the children receive two meals a day, which for many will be the only meals they will receive in the day. The school uses educational theme based activities; games, songs, arts and crafts, whilst the children are exposed to English speakers through interaction with our volunteers.

This township is an informal settlement which means there are no permanent structures in Red Hill; classes at the schools are held in old shipping containers. Resources at the schools are also very limited. All of the families live within make shift houses which have been put together with scrap metal, wood, sheeting, old carpet or whatever can be found. Despite the little that they have the children remain positive and those that can are happy that they can go to school.

3. Compete the sheet and send it back- ensure you give the name of the child you wish to sponsor.
