Rural Pre-School and Community Project, Vilanculos

A stone’s throw away from the World Heritage Site Bazaruto Archipelago in rural Vilanculos, volunteers are involved in a number of exciting community development initiatives. This project was launched in the wake of Cyclone Favio at the start of 2007 and has overcome many obstacles to become the source of inspiration that it is today.

To date volunteers have built over twenty homes for people who lost theirs during the cyclone and are either widowed or disabled and so are incapable of doing the construction work themselves…Read more

“I can’t tell you enough how fulfilling this experience was.  It truly was exactly the experience I had hoped it was.  At no time did I find myself wishing the experience was different from what it was. I went to Africa with this predetermined sympathy for the people and the environment they find themselves in. Within short order I found that we, in the western world could learn so much from the people of Vilanculos and their sense of community”
