Welcome to Sponsor a Child-Kenya
We are hoping to reach out to a number of different groups of needy children in Kenya through the SAC program. We have vulnerable children between the ages of 3-6 years that come to the children’s centre/orphanage during the day for preschool and food. They have been identified by a social worker in the community as being particularly vulnerable/needy, some are orphaned, HIV positive or neglected. These children have caregivers that they live with on a daily basis. However, in some cases care providers cannot be at home during the day to look after them, may not be in a condition to take care of them (due to illness), or do not have enough money to feed them or send them to a pre-school facility. Often the caregivers are unemployed themselves and are unable to provide adequate care for the children.
There are many children that live in children’s centres full-time as they have been orphaned or neglected. The children that are old enough to go to school are sent to local schools, so they remain integrated in their community. Each child has a story of its own. Most have been affected by neglect, abuse, and HIV/AIDS. Some have lost their parents, whereas others are mistreated to the extent that they have had to be removed from their family environment.
Every day babies are abandoned in hospitals, at police stations, on the streets, and in rubbish bins. Of these babies abandoned sixty percent are HIV positive; this is becoming a common reason for abandonment. These babies are taken into homes or rescue centers where they are loved, nourished and protected. There they receive the care that is needed for them to develop normally and grow into a healthy child. These babies have no known parents or relatives and rely solely on the orphanage.
By sponsoring a child you will sustain, support and encourage a vulnerable child for a whole year. Your child will be able to attend school, use their own school books, have their own pencils and will have access to consistent and qualified health advice and support.
Not only are you providing physically but through your support you are instilling a sense of worth in education. Only through education and development do African children have a chance to empower and equip themselves for a better future.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

To Sponsor a Child:
1. Select a child to sponsor from our online profiles or from your own experience visiting our projects.
2. Email Lucy@africanencounter.org and request a Sponsor A Child donation sheet.
3. Compete the sheet and send it back- ensure you give the name of the child you wish to sponsor.
4. Send us your sponsorship money. We highly recommend bank transfer as this method incurs the lowest admin costs. For more information on where and how you can give to The Happy Africa Foundation Click here.
NB. If you choose to donate online to the Happy Africa Foundation please ensure you list your name so we can allocate your donation to the Sponsor a Child Program.
Once you have sent us your donation form and we have received your money into our UK bank account (NB: cheques can take time to clear) we will contact you to confirm the activation of your years sponsorship. If, for any reason we cannot support your chosen sponsor we will outline the reasons in this first email. (For example, if a candidate is unsuitable or outside our catchment zone.)
Four months after activation (approx) you will receive a full update with photos and progress report in PDF format.
We will then email you before your sponsorship lapses to give you a brief update on your sponsored child’s progress and offer you the chance to renew your sponsorship.
