Fundraise

By raising funds for the Happy Africa Foundation you know that you are helping to make a difference to the projects that we support in Africa. There are lots of different things that you can do to raise money and they don’t all require lots of time and effort! Below are 10 ways of tried and tested fundraising to get you started.

Active Living for Active Giving
Organize a walk, jog, run or bike-a-thon with your university/college or office. Choose a total length of time (e.g. 12 hours) and plan shifts so groups can take turns doing the activity. Ask friends and family to sponsor you and come to cheer and support you – and even join in. A great way to get fit and be generous!

Auctions
Collect sports memorabilia, spa packages, gift baskets and other items to hold a silent (display the prize and leave a piece of paper for people to leave their name and bid) or Chinese auction (sell tickets for the prize). Alternatively, hold the auction on eBay.

Chilli Cook Off
Organize a chilli cook-off in your community or place of business. Award prizes for “hottest chilli,” “best chilli,” or “most unusual.” Or alternatively have a special Dinner Party, for example, The Hot Chilli Fiesta, invite family and friends and charge a cover fee for the evening.

Company Matches
Many corporations will match employee donations up to a certain amount. Ask friends that donate money if their company has a company match policy.

Garage sale
Clean out your attic or basement and donate your proceeds. Ask your neighbours and friends to donate their unwanted items as well.

Girls/Boys Night Out
Get your friends out for a night, host it at your house, charge a cover and have fun and drinks!

Recycle Mobile Phones
Recycling old mobile phones is a great way to be eco-friendly AND raise money for charity! Put a notice up at your school/university or college/office, to say you are collecting old mobile phones. Write to local companies to see if they have any old mobile phones that they could donate if you went to pick them up. Perhaps you could provide a special box with pictures on it to publicise the idea and encourage donations. Visit Envirofone- for more details about selling mobiles.

Show Viewing Party
Do you have a show or sports event you just love watching that all your friends are crazy about? Host a party for the season premiere or that important football match. Charge a cover in return for a great night and snacks. You could even have everyone dress as their favourite character or have trivia to go along with it.

Sweet Raffle
Ask people at your school/university school to bring in one item - either sweets, chocolate or biscuits. Then put the treats into two hampers and keep the others as separate prizes. You can then sell tickets for a week before you have the draw. Everyone always finds it difficult to resist chocolate and sweet and because there are so many separate prizes and a MASSIVE prize for first place, you can expect lots of people to buy tickets!
