Nakatindi Community School
African Impact and the Happy Africa Foundation have been working with Nakatindi Community School for over three years. It would be hard to put a number on the volunteers that have worked at the school over that time, the hours that have been spent with the children, and the lessons that have been taught in the classrooms. We have also been able to help expand the school and to improve the learning environment for the children. We assisted in the construction of the first concrete classroom block for the school. This has provided spacious classrooms to accommodate the thirty plus children in each class, something that was a struggle before when the children were taught from their old classroom – a mud hut!
But is didn’t end there…thanks to more generous donations we have been able to build another classroom structure opposite to the first building. It has been a joint effort with the community, local builders have helped with the building whilst we have been able to provide the materials. The involvement of the community is essential for the sustainability of the school; allowing local stakeholders to take responsibility for the long term running of the school. Now the classrooms are almost complete, allowing two more classes to leave their old rooms and move to the new ones.
We plan to continue our work at Nakatindi School, we have started a new sports programme there with the help of the volunteers. This is great as it gives the children the opportunity to learn and improve their sports techniques and importantly to allow them some time to exercise!
We would just like to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped us to continue supporting Nakatindi School, from the community at Nakatindi and from the Happy Africa Foundation.
